Seed of Fire
Published in Paperback by International Publishers Co (September, 1996)
Author: Virginia Warner Brodine
Average review score:

Intelligent historical fiction with the juice of real life.
Seed of the Fire is a superbly conceived and written portrayal of the conditions faced by immigrant Irish canal laborers and their families on the Ohio frontier of the 1820s. Dan and Mary Griffen emerge from the pages as real people fighting to keep their family together in the face of powerful disintegrative forces. A host of other vivid characters surround Dan and Mary, bringing texture and depth to this fascinating tale of an almost primal struggle to overcome brutal working conditions, the forces of nature, uncaring and manipulative bosses, and epidemic disease. At the heart of the story, with significance for our own time as well, is the desire for a solid family existence integrated warmly and naturally into community life, but there is no taint of proselytizing to be found in this work.

Beyond all that, however, is the simple fact that this book is a thoroughly enjoyable read and deserves to be savored. I finished it reluctantly and lived with the afterglow for days.

Semiconductor-Device Electronics (Holt Rinehart and Winston Series in Electrical Engineering)
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (February, 1991)
Authors: R. M. Warner and B. L. Grung
Average review score:

In-depth treatment of bipolar transistors...
Excellent treatment of bipolar junction transistor (BJT) physics in a very tutorial, readable style. Covers many topics in a lucid, intuitive and insightful manner, such as space-charge limited currents, surface recombination velocity, and ohmic contacts, where the discussions are a large cut above other introductory texts. Also covers MOSFETs and PN junctions, but nothing unusual here. There is little information on heterojunctions, optical and microwave devices. Overall, it is the "light" version of an earlier work "Transistors" by Warner and Grung, Wiley, 1983.

Trial by sasswood
Published in Unknown Binding by Pergamon Press ()
Author: Esther Warner Dendel
Average review score:

Takes you on a journey into a different land and people.
Esther Dendel travelled to Nigeria with her husband due to his work on the rubber plantations. While there she became friendly with some of the black workers. She was invited by some of them to walk back to their home village and witness a trial to clear the honour of one of the men.

I love this book because I was able to take that walk with them through jungle and trails. I learned more about their way of life and customs. I got to know some of them and their wisdom and troubles. I enjoyed it so much I read it to my children too.

Turbo Pascal Tricks and Tips
Published in Paperback by Abacus Software (June, 1986)
Authors: A. Warner and Joachim Sgonina
Average review score:

For users of Turbo Pascal, not for beginners
This book was published in 1985 and is intended for users of Turbo Pascal. This text assumes that you already know the basics and want to know how to make the most use out the language.

Some of the topics covered here are sorting, disk management, and binary and balanced trees. Also, there are utilities for debugging and listing programs and cross-references. Each sample routine is explained well. The procedures are for either MS-DOS or CP/M. If you do not know what these are, then this is not for you.

If you still tinker with your first computer from the 1980s, then this book is for you.
